As told, the students are happy with the diagrams and pictures since they can memorize all the important information.

A government high school in Kangpokpi district of Manipur stands tall among its kind in the whole state when it comes to innovation in learning.

From the periodic table to the diagram of the human heart and even the chronology of modern Indian history, one can see the classroom walls painted with vibrant diagrams and pictures as sources of information and knowledge for the students.

Headmaster in charge of the Keithelmanbi Government High School, Seikholen Singsit, who undertook the venture, was among the seven teachers honored with the State Teacher Award during the state-level Teachers’ Day celebration this year.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Seikholen, a Science graduate teacher, said that he believes in the idea of learning outside of books and using visual appeal to keep the students motivated about learning.

It was during the Covid-induced lockdown that, Seikholen, who became the Headmaster in charge of the school, took the initiative from his own pocket and painted the walls by himself.

He said that his school is not covered

under the ‘School Fagathansi Mission’ of the government and was deprived of various facilities yet he wants his students to experience joyful learning.

Since 2021, the enrollment of students has also increased from just around 50 to around 200 students.

As told, the students are happy with the diagrams and pictures since they can memorize all the important information.

During exams though, the classes were shuffled to ensure that students do not copy from them, he said.

Notably, Seikholen has also translated the ‘Vedic Mathematics’ into Thadou dialect to spark interest in Mathematics and Science among the tribal students.

He said that most of the tribal students are less interested in Science and Mathematics subjects.

Seikholen added that he is now working on developing mnemonics to make learning easy even for the students.

He also drew the attention of the government to cover all the schools under the ‘School Fagathansi Mission’ to ensure adequate infrastructures and facilities in all the schools.
