In a big breakthrough, Commander-in-chief of banned Socialist Democratic Front of Kukiland or SDKF Letminthang Haokip alias Boithang has been killed in an encounter with security forces in Manipur’s Churanchandpur district.

As per initial reports, a fierce encounter ensued in the wee hours of Friday, after a joint team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles carried out an anti-insurgency operation following specific inputs of Letminthang’s presence in the Khominthang Village.

Sources informed that Letminthang’s personal bodyguard identified as Lunkhosei Chongloi was critically injured in the gun-battle. The injured rebel has been admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal.
