Manipur Governor AK Bhalla Briefed on Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing Progress by BRO DG

Governor Bhalla emphasised the importance of expediting the project to secure the sensitive border areas while supporting development efforts

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla was briefed on the status of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border during a meeting with Lt. Gen. Raghu Srinivasan, Director General of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), at Raj Bhavan on Monday.

Accompanied by Maj. Gen. Ravroop Singh, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), and senior BRTF officers, Lt. Gen. Srinivasan discussed the critical fencing work aimed at bolstering national security and improving regional connectivity.

It may be noted that Manipur shares a 398-km-long border with Myanmar. According to a report by the Ministry of Home Affairs, only 9.2 km of fencing has been completed so far, leaving significant stretches still vulnerable.

Governor Bhalla emphasised the importance of expediting the project to secure the sensitive border areas while supporting development efforts in the region.

Later in the evening, Lt. Gen. Srinivasan met with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh at the CM Secretariat to review highway construction and other connectivity projects. Sharing the updates on X, the Chief Minister wrote, “Had a productive discussion on ongoing construction of highways in the state and various projects to enhance connectivity in Manipur and the rest of the North East region.”
