Hooda urged the authorities to act quickly.
Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda has broken his silence on the nearly two-year-long ethnic conflict in Manipur, saying the suffering of the people must not be ignored anymore. Speaking at a summit held in New Delhi, Hooda said, “I am just an artist. It’s the government’s job, and they should try to contain the situation in Manipur.”
He continued, “Maybe what I said didn’t go viral on social media. What would I even say? I am not a politician, I am a simple artiste. Whatever I could say, I already said. During Covid, my wife and I used to secretly provide oxygen masks and other essentials to Manipur. What more could we do?”
Calling Manipur an “integral part of India,” Hooda urged the authorities to act quickly. “People are suffering, and it’s something we cannot ignore anymore. We should go and fix it.”
Reflecting on the current crisis, he said, “Even now, the situation is bad. Earlier there were supply shortages basic things like oil and water were hard to get. Then things improved, development happened, and people were happy. But suddenly this conflict erupted. Only the government can bring peace now.”
Randeep Hooda is married to Lin Laishram, a Manipuri actress from the Meitei community. Their wedding took place in Imphal in a traditional Meitei ceremony.
Manipur has been gripped by a violent ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 3, 2023. The unrest has displaced over 60,000 people, left more than 250 dead, and many injured or missing. The worsening situation led the Central Government to impose President’s Rule in the state on February 13, 2025.
Hooda’s heartfelt remarks have shed light on the continued pain of Manipur’s people and renewed calls for peace and resolution.
