BJP will win with ‘solid majority’ in Manipur Assembly Elections: Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma

The BJP’s top strategist for Northeast who is on a 1-day visit to the poll-bound state when asked about an alliance with the NPP, Sarma said that such an arrangement is not required as of now.

The Assam Chief minister added that the BJP is not dependent on any other party. Not only this, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that aligning with the NPP is a factor in Meghalaya, but as far as Manipur is concerned the BJP will form the government on its own. Sarma maintained that the BJP’s primary focus is now on getting a solid majority, rather than looking into the party’s future status with the partners.

Earlier after reaching Imphal, Chief Minister Sarma addressed an intellectual meeting on the Union Budget. Sarma highlighted at length on benefits of the Northeast economically as he spoke on the PM Divine scheme. Chief Minister Sarma said the Prime Minister’s key focus is on the holistic development of the region.

The Assam Chief Minister said that the Centre is responsive to every issue pertaining to Manipur as well as the Northeast, as he highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah had given the nod in a short span for implementing ILP in the state.

The Assam Chief Minister also met Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the latter’s residence. He will also be deliberating with the party functionaries later in the evening.

Notably, this is the first visit of the Assam Chief Minister to Manipur ahead of the elections which are scheduled to be held on February 27 and March 3.
