Manipur: 2 held with drugs worth Rs 9.59 cr in 2 separate operations

The contraband drugs were recovered by the Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal, Manipur

In a crackdown against drugs, the Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal, Manipur on Tuesday recovered a huge quantity of drugs with an estimated market value of Rs 9.59 crore in two separate operations and arrested two persons in connection with the case.

A team of the Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division conducted an operation at North AOC, Imphal West. During the operation, the team recovered 9,300 amphetamine tablets from a person identified as- Md Akbar Khan of Imphal East.

An estimated value of the seized drugs is said to be Rs. 93 lakh in the international market.

On the same day, in an another operation, the team recovered 1.732 kg suspected brown sugar from the possession of Md Ayub Khan from Hatta near Petrol Pump, Imphal East.

An estimated value of the seized suspected brown sugar is said to be Rs. 8.66 crore in the international market.

The total value of the contraband drugs is estimated at 9.59 crore

All have been booked under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
