Assam’s most illustrious academic, Dr. Lakhyahira Datta, is no more. She breathed her last yesterday at about 6:40 in the evening. Dr. Datta was the former head of the Department
Assam’s most illustrious academic, Dr. Lakhyahira Datta, is no more. She breathed her last yesterday at about 6:40 in the evening.
Dr. Datta was the former head of the Department of Geography at Gauhati University. She was also a council member of the esteemed university.
Apart from these, Dr Datta has also been a member of the State Women’s Commission and a former member of the Congress party.
She had also been a member of the Assam State Electricity Board and also a member of the board for the appointment of teachers in Assam.

Besides, Dr. Datta has also authored several curriculum books on the subject of geography.
She has also written several children’s books that have been quite popular. She leaves behind two daughters.
