In a move that would ease parking woes of the people and also help ease traffic congestion in and around Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor Tame Phassang has announced plans to resume the construction of multi-level car parking facilities in four different locations – Banderdewa, Naharlagun, Itanagar, and Chimpu.

Mayor Phassang stated during a media briefing, “We recognize the challenges of road congestion and insufficient parking areas in our region. To alleviate these issues, we have decided to construct multi-level car parks at four strategic locations to provide the public with ample parking space. The necessary machinery and funding for these parking lots are already in place. The tender and funds required for establishing the parking facilities at these four locations have already been allocated and released.”

He emphasized the importance of adhering to building regulations and urged the public to construct septic tanks as required. He appealed to the executive authorities to grant the necessary permissions for building within the legal framework.

Mayor Phassang revealed that the project faced delays previously due to the non-issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the relevant authorities. However, a recent discussion between IMC corporators and the state chief secretary at the civil secretariat in Itanagar has resolved the NOC issue. The IMC will initiate its parking project within the next week, following the clearance of this hurdle.
