Interstate Bike-Theft Racket Busted, 6 Arrested in Meghalaya

In a major breakthrough, the Guwahati Police, in collaboration with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Meghalaya Police, busted an interstate vehicle-lifting gang. The operation began after the arrest of three bike lifters in Assam, identified as Abdul Hanif Seikh (32) from Jhograpar in Dhubri, Rafiq Ali (30) from Kamrup, and Jakir Hussain (27) from Barpeta, were detained after a tip-off from reliable sources. Their arrest provided vital leads that extended the operation to Meghalaya.
With the specific information, police set a trap in Jowai, Meghalaya, where three more suspects were arrested who have been identified as Dibormi Amrynsong, Tunadahun Matra, and Rimiki Suchiag. These individuals, from the West Jaintia Hills district, were identified as receivers of stolen vehicles. They were nabbed near the India-Bangladesh border.
The operation led to the recovery of three stolen motorcycles, including a Royal Enfield and a Bajaj Avenger, from various locations, including Jowai Bypass and Karkhana village near the border. The police also seized a large number of vehicle-breaking tools, such as master keys, an iron cutter, and a hand saw, which were used to bypass security systems and facilitate theft.
The police have launched an investigation to discover the full extent of the gang’s network and to locate additional stolen vehicles.
