A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Inland Waterways Authority of India, the Land Port Authority of India and the Government of Tripura for the development and maintenance of an inland water transport terminal at Srimantapur, near Tripura’s Sonamura.

The MOU signing ceremony, held at Agartala’s State Guest House yesterday, was attended by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Transport Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, and Chief Secretary Kumar Alok, amongst other senior officials of the state.

Later, speaking to media persons, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the work for the development of 10 jetties in the Gomati river is in progress with a sanctioned amount of Rs 25 crore from the government of India. Sonowal further said that this initiative will go a long way towards boosting the tourism industry apart from enhancing trade between India and Bangladesh.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal further informed media persons that a discussion was also held today to set up 50 AYUSH centres beside a 50-bedded AYUSH integrated hospital in Tripura.
