Imam from Bihar murdered inside a mosque in Assam

In a horrific incident, a 55-year-old Imam (a person who leads prayers in a mosque) was brutally murdered by an unidentified man inside a mosque in Tinsukia district on Sunday morning, causing panic among the locals.

The incident took place at Kalabari area of Makum in the district.

The deceased Imam has been identified as Tejibbur Islam, a resident of Bihar.

As per inputs, the victim was preparing for Azan (call for prayer) at around 4 AM when he was attacked by miscreant with sharp weapons and a machete which led to his death.

The culprits escaped from the spot after hitting the victim.

Speaking to the media, an eyewitness said, “When I saw the man attacking the Imam with a machete while he was praying in the morning, I tried to stop him from behind. I dragged him outside the mosque, but he shoved me and ran away. Then I called for help, but it was too early in the morning for anyone to response.”

“The Imam was killed on the spot”, an eyewitness added.

After receiving the information about the incident, the Makum Police team rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem.

The absconding miscreant is yet to be identified and the police have launched a search operation to nab the accused.
