The Assam Police has finally arrested Plaban Borthakur the mastermind behind the illegal organ trade of Morigaon district. Barthakur was reportedly arrested by a team of Morigaon Police from Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore.
Barthakur was allegedly on the run for the past several months, soon after the police busted the illegal organ trade racket in July this year.
It may also be mentioned here that earlier, the police had arrested three persons, including a mother-son duo in connection with the case. The mother’s name was Lillimai Bodo from Guwahati and their accomplished’s name was Plaban Borthakur.
As per reports, the woman and her accomplices were running the illegal kidney trade at the Dharamtul village in Assam’s Morigaon district by promising people of paying in lakhs if they donated their kidneys.
The accused would allegedly lure villagers by promising them four to five lakh rupees in lieu of donating their organs which, the touts would later sell to patients for hefty amounts.
More than 20 individuals from Dharamtul have allegedly sold their organs falling prey to the nexus.
