Holi spirit grips Assam, Vaishnav Monasteries all decked up

The festival of colours Holi is set to begin from tomorrow. From tomorrow onwards the Vaishnav monasteries of Assam would be celebrating the festival of Holi locally known as Doul Utsav.

The Satras and Douls in different parts of the state would be celebrating the festival of colours with devotional songs and also the seasonal Holi Geets which are a unique feature of Assam’s Holi festivities.

Some of the main Vaishnav Satras of Assam like the ones in Barpeta and Batadrawa would be be holding major celebrations.

One such Satra is Basudev Than at Dhakuwakhana which is gearing up for its three day long Holi festivities from tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the famous Batadrawa Satra of Nagaon district is all set to celebrate their five day long Doul Utsav festival.

With Holi set to be celebrated from tomorrow in different parts of Assam, people are looking forward to celebrate the festival of colours. Colours and other Holi items are on sale in Guwahati’s Fancy Bazar area. Our colleague Sushmita Dutta caught with some of the vendors in Fancy Bazar and gauged the mood of festivities.

Meanwhile, enthusiasm also prevails among the shoppers and locals for the festival Holi as they are looking forward to celebrate the festival with full fervour after restraining themselves for the last years due to Covid.
