Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will fly to Rohmoria from Guwahati and land at a temporary helipad.

On a historic occasion for petroleum giant, Oil India Limited, the company will resume its operations at the Khagorijan oilfields in erosion hit Rohmoria under Dibrugarh district today.

To witness the historic occasion, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will fly to Rohmoria from Guwahati and land at a temporary helipad.

Union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Rameswar Teli and Lahowal MLA Binod Hazarika will be present on the occasion along with two Directors of OIL Pankaj Goswami, and Manas Sarma along with Prasanta Borkakoty, Resident Chief Executive.

OIL discovered the Khagorijan oilfields in 1998 and production started from the 3 wells in 2004. Initially, the accumulated production from the wells was around 110 kilolitres per day.

When the company was forced to stop operations in November 2007 due to intense agitation and severe opposition from locals, production had gone down to around 42 klpd.

Apart from witnessing the historic occasion, Assam CM Sarma will also lay the foundation stone for two anti-erosion projects in the locality.

Sources also said that the CM is also likely to announce a package for the villagers who had lost their lands and agricultural fields due to erosion which had continued for the last few decades.
