First Published: 24th September, 2022 14:06 IST

It is suspected that both of them fell unconscious due to inhalation of methane gas emitted from a nearby cow shed.

In a shocking incident today, two persons reportedly died after falling into a well near Hari Om mandir at Gadain Raji in Assam’s Haflong district.

According to sources, one identified as Pobir Das, a helper of a private water supplier in his attempt to pick a water pump valve from a 50 to 70 ft well accidentally fell unconscious.

The helper tied a rope to his body and went inside the well, however as he went deeper he fell senseless.

Following this, the private water supplier, Shankar Das took to rescue his helper but he too fell unconscious inside the well.

It is suspected that both of them fell unconscious due to inhalation of methane gas emitted from a nearby cow shed.

After the incident, the neighbors immediately informed the police, the disaster response force, and emergency services.

The personnel of emergency services rushed to the spot and pumped Shankar Das from the well and took him to the Haflong Civil Hospital, where the doctors declared him ‘dead’.

Later the other person, Probir Das who was rescued after hours of tedious rescue operation also reportedly died.
