The Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati is all set to get a revamped look soon.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the proposed Rs 1,383 crore new international terminal at the airport on Wednesday, giving a push to the Centre’s ambition of making it the hub of transport with ASEAN countries.
Completion of the 1,02,500 square meter terminal building here will take the airport’s annual capacity to handle passengers to nine million. The foundation stone of the new terminal was laid on January 28.
The new terminal building is likely to cater the requirement of passenger growth up to the year 2026-27, thus encouraging investment and tourism in the Northeast.
