In some good news and much to the relief of two-wheeler riders, Assam Cabinet today decided to remove fines for riding without a license, Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, registration, and other related documents.

In all such cases, only legal action will be initiated as the normal course of action, removing the fine component as a form of penalty.

However, there will still be penalties for not wearing a helmet or riding under the influence of alcohol.

The same provisions will also be available for three-wheelers such as auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw, just that drivers of these vehicles will be given as many as 4 warnings for breaking the rules after which they will be slapped with fines.

The decision will help a significant section of the people including students, gig workers, delivery partners, and drivers of public transportation saving their hard-earned money.

Currently, riding a two-wheeler without a valid license is liable to pay Rs 5,000 and riding a two-wheeler without a helmet and carrying multiple pillion passengers liable to pay Rs 1,000.
