Crucial meeting between Home Minister Amit Shah and AASU ends in stalemate

The all important meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the All Assam Students Union delegation that took place on Tuesday evening in New Delhi, ended in a stalemate

The all important meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the All Assam Students Union delegation that took place on Tuesday evening in New Delhi, ended in a stalemate with the AASU sticking firm to their opposition to the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill.

The meeting which took place at the Assam Bhawan was also attended by Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal and NEDA convenor and Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Talking to media later after the meeting, AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya said that the government cannot bargain for the CAB by offering them a lollipop in the form of the provisions of the Sixth Schedule.

The AASU delegates further stated that they can never accept such a bill that differentiates people on the basis of religion.
