Tengnoupal district police have seized contraband items worth around Rs 55 Lakh from a vehicle on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the team carried out a frisking operation in Chamol Village along the Imphal-Moreh road.

A car coming from Moreh was intercepted at the Tengnoupal check post, but it fled the spot and diverted along an alternate route. The combined team carried out search operations and finally traced the car.

Upon checking the car, the team found Brown Sugar weighing around 279 grams in 22 soap caps and 202 Amphetamine tablets.

The car driver, identified as Paoneo Haokip, a resident of Thawai Kuki Village in Kangpokpi district has been arrested. He has been handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station along with the seized drugs.

A case was registered with Tengnoupal police station and further investigation is underway.
