The Congress party on Tuesday released its election manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls, keeping its prime focus on unemployment and farmers’ distress.

The manifesto was released by party president Rahul Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and senior leader P Chidambaram among others.

The party has assured Rs 72,000 per year to five crore poor families as part of its ‘Nyay’ scheme and promises to fill up 22 lakh vacancies by 2020 March.

In its manifesto, the Congress has promised to make farm loan default a civil offence and not a criminal offence besides promising to amend the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.

The Congress said it will replace GST with GST 2.0 that will levy a single moderate and standard rate of tax on all goods and services.

Among rural development promises, the Congress said it will launch MGNREGA 3.0 to address issues of water scarcity and issues that aggravate farmers’ distress.
