Former Silchar MP and Congress leader Sushmita Dev has stirred a controversy by saying that the Bengalis will be deprived of their rights, identity, employment besides others if Clause 6 of the Assam Accord is implemented.
Dev in an alleged inflammatory speech stated that Hindu Bengalis seeking Citizenship under the new Citizenship Amendment Act, will have to provide documents from Bangladesh, if not then they will be sent to detention camps.
The All India Women Congress President, hence indirectly indicated that Hindu Bengalis who came to Assam after 1971 will be sent to detention camps being built.
