This development is significant as it will establish a crucial railway link connecting Agartala with Akhaura in Bangladesh
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has officially declared Nischintapur railway station as the first Land Customs Station (LCS) in Tripura, a move that has been welcomed by the Tripura government.
This development is significant as it will establish a crucial railway link connecting Agartala with Akhaura in Bangladesh.
The designation of Nischintapur station as the first LCS in the state, it will enable the smooth transit of goods and passengers between India and Bangladesh via train.
Tripura already has eight notified LCSs, including Agartala, Srimantapur, Muhurighat, Khowaighat, Dhalaighat, Manughat, Old Raghna-bazar, and Sabroom, all of which have facilitated trade and travel by road.
Tripura’s Chief Minister, Manik Saha, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the positive impact this development will have on bilateral relations with Bangladesh and the enhanced connectivity with the rest of the country.
This new railway link is expected to reduce travel time and boost the economy and prosperity of the region.
A recent trial run of a gang car on the Akhaura to Nischintapur track, a part of the Akhaura-Agartala railway line, was successfully conducted in Agartala on September 1.
However, the scheduled inauguration of the rail line during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to New Delhi has been postponed due to incomplete construction.
The ongoing construction of the Agartala-Akhaura rail link, which is a crucial component of a larger project aimed at connecting Bangladesh to India’s Tripura, has received a financial allocation of Rs 153.84 crore from the railway ministry. The total project cost is estimated to be Rs 862.58 crore.
This railway link’s inclusion in the framework of 16 designated transit routes holds great importance as it will facilitate seamless cargo transportation between the Chittagong Sea Port and Mongla Port in Bangladesh and multiple states in India. This development is expected to significantly boost trade and improve living standards in the bordering regions.
