How far can you go when it comes to adventure? A Russian adventurer and sailor, Vaisily, has embarked on a daring mission to sail across Assam’s mighty river, the Brahmaputra, in a hand-made boat.
Currently residing with a local family in Dikhoumukh in Sibsagar, Assam, Vaisily has spent the past month in crafting the hand-made boat. He aims to complete building the boat by October 20.
His journey will begin at Dikhoumukh’s Rupohi, setting a course for Sadiya, with plans to continue onwards into Bangladesh.
When asked about his journey, Vaisily shared, “The Brahmaputra is the only male river, and I want to explore it. I aim to cross the river upstream and then journey downstream, perhaps visiting Bangladesh and even the famous Sunderbans and Kolkata. While I cannot predict the exact path, I hope to immerse myself in the villages and connect with the people along the way.”
According to a resident, Vaisily is more than just a tourist. He is an intrepid adventurer drawn to Assam by the allure of the mighty Brahmaputra River.
With his visa valid until December, he is determined to embark on his journey before October’s Durga Puja festivities.
His initial point of departure will be Sadiya, from where he intends to chart a course towards the Bangladesh border. He is already in discussions with the Bangladesh embassy, exploring the possibility of extending his voyage into Bangladesh and then to the southern tip of India, Kanyakumari.
Vaisily also plans to translate the works of Srimanta Sankardeva into Russian.
