BJP’s Nagaon candidate Rupak Sharma has filed his nominations for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.

Sharma who was declared as the party candidate from Nagaon after days of speculation on who would get the nod to contest from the seat, filed his nomination in the presence of a number of senior BJP leaders.

Sharma’s name was finalised in the BJP’s Central Election Committee meeting held late Monday night in New Delhi, which was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah.

There had been much speculation on the probable candidate of the BJP for the Nagaon seat, with the names of Union Minister Rajen Gohain and his wife Rita Gohain being dropped from the probable list of candidates, for which Gohain expressed displeasure before the media.

Gohain who was facing a sexual allegation charge was given a clean chit by the Gauhati High Court yesterday. However, despite this, the party did not consider him for the ticket.
Nagaon goes to polls in the second phase on April 18.
