Rahul Gandhi teared into the MNF government blaming it for prevalence of drugs, unemployment as well as lack of development in Mizoram
Rahul Gandhi today sounded the poll bugle for the Congress in poll bound Mizoram. After being accorded a warm welcome, the Congress leader addressed a massive gathering of party workers in Aizawl drumming up support for the grand old party.
Rahul Gandhi in a direct attack on the Zoramthanga government blamed it for spike in prevalence of drugs among the youths in the state, unemployment and lack of development.
Gandhi took pot shots on the incumbent MNF government led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga in the rally attended by a sea of supporters and said, “We are fighting an election here and I would like you to consider what the government has done over the last 5 years. Drugs are spreading rampantly across the future generation. 250 young lives have been extinguished because of this. And while the BJP attacks your culture, your religion, your tradition the MNF supports them in Delhi. One of the people who I was working with runs an NGO and he fights the drug menace. So I asked him what is the reason for drugs in Mizoram. His immediate answer was the young people of Mizoram do not get jobs and they do not see a future for themselves.“
Escalating his attack further, the Congress leader stated, “Over the last 5 years the MNF government has created only 2000 jobs, your infrastructure here, your roads here are in shambles. It is a shame that the people who are running your government are in cahoots with the government in Delhi.“
In his attempt to woo the last voter in the state, Rahul Gandhi affirmed that his party will not allow any sort of attack on the culture, religion and traditions of Mizoram. In this context, Rahul Gandhi said, “vote for the Congress party which treats everybody with respect, that provides not empty words but a vision to the state of Mizoram. If there is one thing I want to leave you with, it is that we will defend your culture, your religion and your tradition. It is for us most important than anything else. Because if Mizo culture is attacked and destroyed, if your tradition is attacked and destroyed, if your religion is attacked and destroyed, than India is attacked and destroyed. We love your diversity, we lover your perspective, we love your way of looking at the world and life. It is our more valuable asset because it is the heart of India and the heart of Mizoram.“
The party announced its list of 39 candidates for the 40 seat assembly elections to be held on November 7. Counting of votes will be on December 3.
Rahul Gandhi is on a 2-day visit to poll bound Mizoram.
