Bangladesh Army is said to have killed two people in the Kuki-Chin dominated Ramthar village in Bandarban district of Bangladesh.
Army personnel allegedly killed 73-year-old village chief Thangchul and his son Lalpeklawm Bawm, 27.
Sources from Lawngtlai District informed that the Bangladesh army launched an operation in the village and opened fire indiscriminately and gunning down the village chief and his son. They were going towards their paddy field near the village when the Army firing took place.
Ramthar is inhabited by the Bawm community of the Kuki-Chin tribe.
According to sources, the Bangladesh Army has been arresting and killing people for several months on the pretext of launching crackdowns on the KNA, an outfit fighting for a separate state for the Kuki-Chin people in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Since the village is far from the Mizoram border. Most of the villagers – the elderly, women and children have left the village for the jungles as they fear another military onslaught.
