Assam’s Simu Das helps Indian women’s blind cricket team to win gold at IBSA World Games 2023

Simu is the only girl from Assam who represented the state at the international level

The Indian women’s blind cricket team scripted history as they won a gold medal defeating Australia at the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games 2023 held in England on Saturday, August 26.

Indian women’s team thrashed mighty Australia by 9 wickets on the DLS method in a T20 match at England’s Edgbaston.

The team has won everyone’s hearts with their stunning performance at the World Games, and the entire country is overjoyed with their victory.

This victory is even sweeter for Assam as the state’s very own Simu Das, put up an excellent performance in the game which led to their victory.

Simu Das is a resident of Kathiatali in Assam’s Nagaon district.

Simu is the only girl from Assam who represented the state at the international level.

Simu first played for Team Rajasthan. Earlier in January this year, Simu won the titles of Player of the Series and Player of the Match in the blind women’s cricket competition held in Nepal. After that, Simu played a T20 match in Bangalore.

Congratulating the team Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X and wrote, “Our girls in blue have scripted history! We are so proud Bharat’s blind women cricket team won the Gold Medal at the IBSA Games by defeating Australia by 9 wickets. This victory is even sweeter for Assam – as Simu Das from Nagaon put up an excellent performance! @blind_cricket.”

Cricket is included in the IBSA World Games for the first time, and India’s men’s and women’s blind teams made history by reaching finals.

Other players of the Indian women’s blind cricket team are–
Varsha U (c), V Ravani, P Tudu, G Neelappa, B Hansda, S Davis, Deepika TC, P Saren, S Patel, M Satyavathi.
