‘Assam’s Bihu is unique and aesthetic’: President Droupadi Murmu

President Murmu thanked the central government and the state government for their efforts in organising the Gaj Utsav
President of India Droupadi Murmu today appreciated Assam’s national festival Bihu and urged the people of the state to preserve the tradition.
“Yesterday I witnessed Bihu dance performances by Assamese artistes at Kohora. Assam’s Bihu is unique and aesthetic, I truly appreciate,” President Murmu said inaugurating the two-day Gaj Utsav-2023 at the Kaziranga National Park today.
The President also extended warm wishes to the people of Assam for Rongali Bihu which is just days away and asked the people of the state to uphold its traditions.
Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Union Forest Minister Bhupender Yadav, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and other Assam ministers, senior officials of the state were present.
President Murmu thanked both the central government and the state government for their efforts in organising the Gaj Utsav and said that she was happy to be inaugurating the event in Assam as part of the celebrations marking 30 years of Project Elephant in India.
She said that ensuring ecological restoration of the natural elephant habitats, ensure elephants’ protection from hunters and poachers and to develop strategies to prevent unnatural causes of elephants’ death in the country is some of the main goal of Project elephant.
President Droupadi Murmu who is on a 3-day visit to Assam, took a jeep safari inside the Kaziranga National Park’s central range on her second day in the state before inaugurating the Gaj Utsav.
President Murmu has already reached Guwahati today from Kaziranga and would be attending the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Gauhati High Court later in the evening. She will also flag off the Mount Kanchenjunga Expedition 2023.
On Saturday, tomorrow, April 8, she will take a sortie on the Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter aircraft at the Air Force station in Tezpur, before departing for Delhi.
Last evening, President Droupadi Murmu enjoyed a cultural evening at the Kaziranga National Park.
The president was seen enjoying the music and the colourful and vibrant culture of Assam in the presence of Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other leaders.
