Assam’s ace swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika becomes first from NE to cross the English Channel in 31 hours in a relay

In a proud moment for Assam and the Northeast, veteran swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika has crossed the English Channel to and fro. Hazarika completed the feat while covering a distance of 78 kilometers and clocking 31 hours.

Hazarika achieved the feat while swimming in relay from England Samphire to France Calis and then back again. During the course of his swimming through the English Channel, the veteran swimmer had to battle strong current, inclement weather and even swim under the threat of jellyfish, dolphins and seals, which could have turned the situation dangerous for him.

Hazarika, after completing the feat, said that it is a dream come true and a proud moment for all Indians and the people of Assam.
