Assam is all set to start its fresh vaccine drive for underage people from January 3 onwards.

Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that vaccine drives will be conducted in all colleges and schools in the state for people within the 15 to 18-year age category.

Mahanta stated that the government hopes to complete the vaccination drive by January 9. Furthermore, he added that each deputy commissioner will be entrusted with carrying out the vaccine drive in his or her district. Mahanta also stated that no Omicron variant cases have been detected in Assam so far.

The Assam Health Minister said that considering the rise in Omicron cases in the country, the health department in the state is ready to tackle any eventuality. A laboratory has been prepared in the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital for genome sequencing.
