Two senior police officers have been summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the Sub Inspector recruitment scam in Assam.

Investigators have summoned SP of the Barpeta Foreigner Regional Registration Office, Kumar Sanjit Krishna, and Karimganj Additional SP Prasant Dutta in connection with the SI scam.

Notably, Sanjit Krishna, who is the brother of Assam chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, was serving as the SP of Karimganj district. However, in an order issued on October 11, Sanjit Krishna was transferred as the SP of Barpeta FRRO.

Efforts are also underway by various quarters to hide or destroy crucial evidence pertaining to the case.

A major fire broke out at two godowns in Bongaigaon, which were owned by the brother of an accused in the sub-inspector recruitment paper leak case. It is being suspected that a lot of evidence pertaining to the case may have been burnt during the fire. The proprietor of the godowns is the brother of co-accused Akshay Chand Vaid.

Meanwhile, the saga of arrests continues. The CID has arrested one more person in connection with the scam. The arrested person has been identified as Pranab Sarma. The arrest was made after an audio clip of the arrested individual demanding money from aspiring candidates went viral. Then accused identified as Pranab Sarma is a teacher in a government school in Baksa district.

As many as 45 people have been arrested so far in connection with the scam. Prime accused former DIG PK Dutta and Diban Deka are already in police custody.

It remains to be seen what new twists and developments happen as the investigation proceeds further.
