The protesters put forth various demands for the betterment of the tea garden community of the state. The tea workers have been demanding scheduled tribe (ST) status, a hike in their daily wage to Rs 351, the formation of a separate autonomous council for the Adivasi community, a proper health care system, sanitization facilities among others.
