Doctors working in tea estates across Assam are walking out of their jobs.
Sources told Northeast Live that five doctors in different tea estates across the state have already taken this step as a protest against the recent killing of a senior doctor in the Teok Tea Estate by an irate mob of tea workers.
Reports state that three doctors have applied for voluntary retirement, while two others have resigned from their jobs.
Of these, Dr Nipul Karmakar from the Sonowal Tea Estate, and Dr SN Singh and Dr Lupa Das from Tata Tea’s Bhelaguri Tea Estate have applied for voluntary retirement from their jobs.
On the other hand, Dr Ajoy Kotoki from the Numaligarh Tea Estate and Dr Rabi Baruah from the Mohanbari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh have tendered their resignations.
Meanwhile, as per reports other doctors working in tea garden hospitals across the state are also contemplating leaving their jobs.
