Assam State awards conferred to 21 eminent persons

The Assam Baibhav, Assam Saurav, and Assam Gaurav are the highest civilian awards conferred by Assam government to people who have contributed immensely to the society through their expertise

The Assam government on Friday conferred the prestigious Assam Baibhav, Assam Saurav, and Assam Gaurav awards to 21 eminent personalities for their contribution to the society in their respective fields.

Assam governor Gulab Chand Kataria presented the awards in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at an event held in Guwahati.

Dr. Tapan Saikia, a well-known oncologist not just in Assam but in the entire Northeastern region was conferred the Assam Baibhav award.

Dr. Saikia has made significant contributions towards the treatment of cancer and raising awareness about the deadly disease in the region.

The second civilian award, the Assam Saurav, has been conferred on five recipients:
• Krishna Roy (producer of Abahan Theatre) for his contribution in the field of art and culture.
• Gilbertson Sangma (footballer) for his contribution in the field of sports.
• Nayanmoni Saikia for her contribution to the lawn bowl game.
• Binoy Kumar Saikia (principal scientist at NEIST) for her contribution in the field of science.
• Dr. Sashidhar Phukan (Jorhat Joint Director of Health Services) for his contributions to healthcare and public service.
The third highest civilian award, Assam Gaurav, has been conferred on 15 awardees:
• Dhritimala Deka for her contribution to public service
• Dr. Debojit Barman for contributions in the field of agriculture and allied fields (composite farming)
• Rustom Basumatary for contribution in the field of tourism
• Manje La for contribution in the field of tourism
• Binanda Hati Barua for contribution to the environment and forest
• Atul Ch. Baruah for his contribution in the field of social work
• Kalyani Rajbonshi for her contribution in entrepreneurship (SHG worker)
• Shila Gowala for public service (ASHA worker)
• Jogesh Deuri for his work in the field of agriculture and allied fields (sericulture).
• Pankaj Lal Gogoi for his contribution in entrepreneurship (poultry)
• Sarbeswar Basumatary for his contribution in the field of agriculture (Progressive Farmer)
• Manthang Hmar for agriculture and allied (Pineapple Farmer and Exporter)
• Dr. Dhrubajyoti Sharma for his contribution in agriculture and allied fields (Horticulturist and Entrepreneur).
• Dayal Goswami for Satriya Culture and Art (Mukha Shilpa)
• Dr. Syed Ifthikar Ahmed for anti-AIDS and anti-drug campaigns

to people who have made contributions to society through their expertise and dedicated service in their respective fields.
