Assam: Severed Head Found in Dhakuakhana

First Published: 2nd December, 2024 15:40 IST

The severed head has now been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for forensic testing to confirm its identity.

A severed head was found under the Singia Bridge in Dhakuakhana under Lakhimpur district of Assam, sparking widespread shock and suspicion.

The head, found inside a sack entangled in a fisherman’s net, is believed to be linked to the gruesome murder case involving Sunil Gogoi, a contractor under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and Jahangir Hussain, a labourer.

The head was recovered near the house of Sunil Gogoi, who has been absconding since June 1, 2024.

It may be mentioned here that a charred, headless body was found in the Sapatia area of Dhakuakhana on June 2, and Sunil Gogoi’s wife, Puspa initially had filed an FIR, claiming that the body was that of her husband.

However, the police investigation later revealed that the body might belong to Jahangir Hussain, a labourer from Dhubri district who was reportedly murdered by Gogoi.

On June 19, police declared Gogoi as the prime suspect in the murder of Jahangir Hussain.

On August 11, Gogoi’s whereabouts have reportedly been traced outside Assam. Reports also indicate that he has changed his mobile number.

Now the shocking discovery of the severed head has left locals in confusion as they await further updates on the mystery surrounding the brutal killings.

The severed head has now been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for forensic testing to confirm its identity.
