Assam polls: Himanta Biswa Sarma along with family casts vote in Amingaon

NEDA Convener and Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma cast his vote at a polling booth in Amingaon under Jalukbari constituency on Tuesday.

Sarma who has been winning the Jalukbari seat since 2001 is seeking a re-election for the sixth time. He was seen in a traditional Assamese attire while exercising his franchise.

After casting his vote he said, “We thought in third phase there will be some challenges, however because of some wrong policies of the opposition we are going to do good.”

The senior BJP leader was accompanied by his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma and son Nandil Biswa Sarma to the polling station. This is the first time Nandil Biswa Sarma has cast his vote.

Voter turnout of 12.83 per cent has been recorded till 9:30 am. Voting for 40 seats in the third phase of the Assembly elections will take place between 7 am to 6 pm.

Earlier, Sarma taking to Twitter urged the people to go out and cast their vote.

“Today is your day to endorse the politics of progress & development. Please do go out and cast your vote for it shall determine the future of us and Assam. Your vote is precious. Join the celebration of democracy in #AssamAssemblyElections2021,” he tweeted.
