The incident took place in Naharkatia Balimra during the ring down process in the oil well number 15.
In a major incident reported from Namrup in Upper Assam on Friday, an overloaded oil rig of a company named Energy Private Limited collapsed and fell down in an oil well.
The incident took place in Naharkatia Balimara during the ring down process in the oil well number 15.
However, the employees present at the scene narrowly escaped the accident. No casualities have been reported in the incident.
The collapsed oil rig was retrieved out of the oil well with the help of a crane before it entirely fell into the well.
Furthermore, it has been speculated that if the collapsed rig had completely fallen into the well, the other two mines would have also been in difficulty.
Sources said that this is the same company that was involved in leak in the Baghjaan incident.
Following today’s rig collapse in Naharkatia, various organisations, including the All Assam Students Union, expressed their displeasure with this company’s handling of oil mines.
The locals have expressed their concerns about the incident saying that despite repeated requests the authorities have not taken any step till date to avoid such incidents.
