Assam Govt Announces 3% DA Hike for Govt Employees, Diwali Gift Says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

This marks the second DA increase by the Assam government this year, following a four per cent hike in March.
Ahead of Diwali, the Assam Cabinet today approved a three per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees. The hike raises DA from the existing 50 per cent to 53 per cent of basic pay, effective from July this year.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed the hike a Diwali gift for government employees, ensuring a phased disbursement of DA arrears from December to March, with 25 per cent of the arrears to be paid each month. This marks the second DA increase by the Assam government this year, following a four per cent hike in March that had raised DA from 46 per cent to 50 per cent.
Additionally, Chief Minister Sarma disclosed that in the past two months, authorities have identified 138 infiltrators in Assam, all of whom were Rohingya Muslims. “We have detected and pushed back all 138 infiltrators in the last two months. We are only finding Rohingya Muslims,” Sarma stated, emphasizing the government’s efforts in addressing unauthorized immigration in the state.
The Cabinet also decided to celebrate “Bhasha Gaurav Saptah” (Language Pride Week) from November 3 to November 9, 2024. The week-long observance aims to honor the Assamese language, which was recently designated as a classical language by the Union Cabinet.
