The Assam government to further strengthen the containment of spread of COVID-19 announced stricter guidelines on Saturday imposing a total ban of movement of individuals from 12 noon to 5 am from May 16.

However, the order will not be applicable for individuals working in organisations rendering Essential/Emergency Services, Law Enforcement Services and Election work.

According to the order “all shops and commercial establishments shall shut down at 11 AM on all days”.

The new directives will be applicable in respect of urban areas and adjacent areas within 5 km radius from the periphery of municipal corporation/ municipal board/ revenue towns and come into force from 5 am on May 16, until further orders.

COVID-19 death toll in Assam surpassed the 2,000-mark with 76 more casualties on Friday, while 4,078 more tested positive for Coronavirus pushing the tally to 3,19,632.

A total of 2,060 people have died due to the infection in the state. Kamrup (Metro) reported the highest number of 20 deaths, followed by six in Dibrugarh, among other districts.
