The flood situation in Assam has witnessed slight improvement with let up in rainfall and flood water receding in several places. However, many areas in 5 districts namely Nagaon, Hojai, Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj still remain under water.

According to a data released by the state disaster management authority, a total of 5.14 lakh people have been affected by the deluge. Meanwhile, the death toll in the recent flood waves has climbed upto 21.

The Barak and Kushiyara rivers are flowing above danger mark. A total of 671 villages are reeling under water in the six districts and 351 relief camps have been set up with 1.49 lakh people taking shelter.

NDRF teams are running rescue operations in the region and have successfully rescued several people from the raging flood waters.
