Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday urged the people of the state to choose earthen lamps and local clothes over international products this Diwali.

CM Sonowal also requested people to celebrate Diwali with restraint and to remember the resolve of ‘vocal for local’ while shopping for gifts, clothes and other items.

He also asked the people to support the local artisans by using or gifting local textiles and handcrafted items.

Taking to Twitter Sonowal wrote, “From earthen lamps to clothes, this Diwali, let us show support to our artisans by using or gifting local textiles and handcrafted items. Make PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s clarion call of Vocal for Local into a mass movement.

A few days back Prime Minister Narendra Modi on ‘Mann Ki Baat’  urged all to be ‘Vocal For Local’ when they step out for festive shopping and prioritise local products.

PM Modi went on to point out that COVID-19 induced lockdown helped us understand the importance of essential workers without whom our lives would have been much difficult.

The Prime Minister also requested citizens to treat them like a family member and make them part of the festivities.
