Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday reacting to the FIR filed against him by the Mizoram police said that he will be happy to take part in any investigation to take the case to its logical conclusion.
The Chief Minister’s reaction came after Mizoram named him and other top officials in a case linked to the July 26 violence near the inter-state border.
However, the Assam chief minister wondered why the case is being investigated by the Mizoram police and not handed over to a neutral agency like the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Sarma also said that the place of occurrence is well within the constitutional territory of Assam, and informed that he has already raised this specific point with his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga.
Meanwhile, in a rare show of solidarity, Raijor Dol leader and Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi came out in strong support of the Assam chief minister after an FIR was filed against him by the Mizoram police.
Speaking to the media at the Silchar circuit house, the Raijor Dol leader said that the chief minister may be his political opponent in the Assembly, but it is unacceptable that a neighbouring state files an FIR against Assam’s sitting chief minister.
Gogoi has demanded that the FIR filed against CM Sarma must be immediately withdrawn by Mizoram.
