Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma advised the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) to reschedule the exam for the Assamese exam

Amid the HSLC question paper leak row in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday has asked SEBA to reschedule the Assamese paper exam.

He asked for rescheduling of the exam because a person arrested in connection with the paper leaks had confessed that the question paper for the upcoming Assamese subject exam has also been leaked.

Taking to Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “It has been brought to my notice that the arrested accused centre incharge of Luhit Khabalu HS School has, during interrogation, confessed of leaking Assamese paper as well. In view of this, I have advised SEBA to reschedule Assamese exam also.”

Meanwhile, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that all exams for MIL subjects, including English (IL) will be rescheduled.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “SEBA has informed me that as advised by HCM @CMOfficeAssam , the exam of all MIL subjects, including English (IL) of HSLC scheduled for 18 March, will be rescheduled. The new date will be announced tomorrow.”

The high school leaving certificate examination is being conducted in 912 centers across the state. Around 4,22,174 students are appearing for the HSLC board exams (Class X) 2023.

Board of Secondary Education, Assam has cancelled the class 10 General Science exam amid reports of question paper leaking. On March 12, SEBA announced that a handwritten model question paper for the General Science exam, scheduled on March 13, has been spread on social media, thus, the exam has been cancelled. After the cancellation of the Assam HSLC exam 2023 for General Science papers, the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) has announced the new dates for the examination. The examination is scheduled to be held on March 30.

The HSLC Exam for English subject was cancelled in JR Higher Secondary School, Ganirgram of Cachar district on March 3 when students used unfair means (cheating) in the examination. The cancelled English examination in JR Higher Secondary School, Ganirgram was re-scheduled on March 28.

As of now, three question papers — English, General Science, and Assamese paper have been leaked.

The police have so far arrested 25 people.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) is continuing its probe into the question paper leak issue.

Briefing the media in Dibrugarh, GP Singh said that of the 25 arrested, 12 are adults and 13 are children.

Accordingly, the 12 adults have been sent to 3-day custody of CID and
the remaining 13 children have been shifted to juvenile homes where they were questioned by CID following Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) order, said GP Singh.

Besides these 25 accused, police also picked up three more persons for interrogation in connection with the case, said GP Singh.
