In a shocking development, another BJP worker has been arrested by the police in connection with an alleged cash-for-jobs scam in several departments of the State.
The Crime Branch of the Assam Police have arrested BJP worker Rajib Parashar in connection with the alleged recruitment anomalies in the Railways and P&RD departments among others.
Earlier, suspended BJP leader Diban Deka was arrested for his alleged involvement in the SI recruitment scam.
Rajib Parasar allegedly took money from job aspirants by making false promises of providing jobs in several departments in the State.
The accused was arrested from Anil Plaza in Guwahati after the Crime Branch registered a suo-moto case. Prior to this, the Crime Branch had also carried out raids in the Six Mile residence of the accused leading to the seizure of several incriminating documents. Rajib Parashar is currently in the custody of Crime Branch.
The arrest of Rajib Parashar and subsequent investigation into the case is likely to expose several big names involved in the scams.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has constituted a one-man committee comprising of Additional Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah to probe into the matter.
The CID had submitted its report on the irregularities in the recruitment process for vacant posts in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department held in May 2018. The CID in its report stated gross anomalies in 18 examination centres in 9 districts of the State.
