Assam: 5 Feared Dead, Several Injured After Tower Crane Collapses In Dalmia Cement Factory

An eyewitness who saw the massive crane's abrupt fall said that the boom suddenly fell as the crane was lifting materials.

At Least five persons are feared dead and several persons are reported to have sustained serious injuries after a tower crane collapsed at the Dalmia Cement’s under-construction ‘Green Field Clinkerisation Plant’ at 16 Kilo, Umrangso in Dima Hasao district of Assam on Saturday evening.

The accident occurred at around 6.30 pm. Several workers were at the site when the crane crashed. Rescue operations continued until late last night to rescue the persons who had been trapped at the accident site.

The identities of the five persons who are feared dead are yet to be ascertained.

All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, said the eyewitness.

The cause of the accident is still unknown. Northeast Live tried to contact the Dalmia Cement authorities to know what exactly happened but was unable to reach them.

More details are awaited.
