Assam: 10 foreigners released on bail ahead of final NRC list

As many as 10 foreign nationals have been set free by the authorities in Assam, following Supreme Court’s approval to the State Government’s proposal for conditional release of declared foreigners who completed more than three years in detention camps.
These foreign nationals were released from the Goalpara and Chirang Detention Camps in Assam, following grant of bail by Foreigners’ Tribunals. Of the 10 foreigners released, 8 are being set free from the Goalpara Detention Camp.
The 8 foreigners, who have been released from the Goalpara Detention Camp are: Mannat Ali, Badshabu, Shyamal Ghosh, Sujit Sarkar, Sana Mullah, Rubi Dey, Rahim Ali and Shadhan Sarkar.
The 10 foreigners have been released after due completion of the procedures, which include depositing a bond with 2 sureties of Rs 1 lakh each and recording their bio-metric details.
The freed people, from now on will have to report to the specified police station every week.
At present there are still over a thousand declared foreigners lodged in six detention centers located in Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Silchar.
