Arunachal: Violence erupts in Longding during scrutiny of nomination papers

Tension prevails in the Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh after supporters of National People’s Party (NPP) clashed with security forces during the scrutiny of nomination papers on Friday.

Sources said that supporters of Gangdiap Wangsa, who had filed his nomination from the NPP party for the Pongchau Wakka legislative assembly constituency started pelting stones at the carcade of his opponent BJP candidate, sitting MLA and minister Honchun Ngandam was moving out from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

Longding SP, Dekio Gumja received injuries in the incident, after which security forces, who were on duty, fired in the air to disperse the crowd.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Longding DC, Bekir Nyorak said that the situation in the area is normal and everything is under control. “One person has been arrested in this connection”, DC said.

“Additional security forces are being deployed at vulnerable areas, and the administration has clamped Section 144 and issued certain prohibitory orders”, he added.

He also stated that SP Gumja is being treated at the Longding District Hospital, and he is totally out of danger.
