Arunachal Chief Minister Pema today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and congratulated him for the successful passage of the historic Women Reservation Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam) in both the Houses of Parliament making reservation for women in Lok Sabha and State Assemblies a reality.

CM Khandu also discussed various developmental issues related to Arunachal Pradesh with the Prime Minister.

“An honour indeed to meet Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji today. I congratulated him for the historic passage of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in both the Houses of Parliament, making reservation for women in Lok Sabha and State Assemblies a reality. With this landmark transformative reform, now women will have representation in the highest decision-making bodies in greater numbers. I am truly indebted to Hon’ble PM for his bold move towards #WomenEmpowerment. Also had an enriching discussion with Hon’ble Pradhan Mantri Ji on various development matters of #ArunachalPradesh. Blessed to have his margdarshan and am humbled by his love and affection for the people of our State,” CM Khandu tweeted.

The Women’s Reservation Bill, which had been under discussion for 27 years, was passed by Lok Sabha on Wednesday in the Parliament’s Special Session with 454 members voting in favour of the legislation and two against it, while the Rajya Sabha passed the Bill unanimously on Thursday with 214 members voting in support and none against.

After the Bill was passed, PM Modi congratulated the people of India and thanked all the Rajya Sabha MPs who voted for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.

PM Modi said that such unanimous support is indeed gladdening.

“With the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in Parliament, we usher in an era of stronger representation and empowerment for the women of India. This is not merely a legislation; it is a tribute to the countless women who have made our nation. India has been enriched by their resilience and contributions. As we celebrate today, we are reminded of the strength, courage, and indomitable spirit of all the women of our nation. This historic step is a commitment to ensuring their voices are heard even more effectively,” PM Modi tweeted.
