Curfew has been imposed in Itanagar from 3 pm today in the wake of the unrest following clashes between protesters opposing granting of PRC to Non-Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribes and police on Friday night.

As many as 4 protesters were injured in the clash that saw police resorting to firing in the air.

According to reports, a number of police officials including Itanagar Capital SP Harsha Vardhan were also injured in the clash. One of the protesters succumbed to his injuries rendering the situation tense and extremely volatile in Itanagar.

The State Assembly has been adjourned sine die in the wake of the situation and internet services suspended as a preventive measure to contain violence that has been spreading fast to nearby Naharlagun.

Meanwhile, amid all the tension, a faction of the AAPSU is likley to call a 72-hour bandh against the government’s alleged move to grant permanent residence certificate to non STs of the state.
