Angry public in Silchar protest against APDCL’s smart meter prepaid plan

Hundreds of angry public took to the streets of Silchar today to protest against APDCL’s smart meter prepaid plan. The public demanded the withdrawal of prepaid electricity meters.

The public demanding the withdrawal of prepaid electricity meters shouted slogans against the system for forcefully imposing prepaid smart meters without asking the public alleged the APDCL of looting the public.

The situation worsened after police interfered in the protest rally, and a scuffle broke out between the police and the angry mob; however, the infuriated public continued their procession. The public later submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Cachar.

They warned the government that if the prepaid smart meter is not withdrawn soon, the movement will take off on a larger scale in the future. Several academicians and intellectuals of the city, including various parties and organizations, were present in the procession.
